I’m still at a loss for words when describing what a hazelnut tastes like. I honestly hadn’t tried a hazelnut (or anything hazelnut-flavored) until a few years ago, so it’s still a pretty new flavor profile to me.

When I Google “what does a hazelnut taste like?,” all I can find is that hazelnuts have a “delicate nutty flavor.” Gee, thanks. Personally, I think hazelnuts have a sweet, almost fruit-like quality with some nuttiness as well.

Regardless of how [not] well I can explain the flavor, I can 100% assure you that the pairing of hazelnut and coffee is A++. While this combination is traditionally a morning situation (like caramel coffee), let’s make like Lebowski, add some splashes of vodka and coffee liqueur, call it a play on a White Russian, and take this to cocktail hour.

Or enjoy it as an after-dinner drink, perhaps after a big ham dinner on the horizon.

Hazelnut Espresso White Russians

Ingredients

  • 2 pumps Amoretti Hazelnut Syrup
  • 4 ounces espresso, chilled
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur
  • 3 ounces heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Fill two rocks glasses with ice. Add 1 pump hazelnut syrup, 2 ounces espresso, 1 ounce vodka and 1/2 ounce coffee liqueuer to each glass; stir. Top each glass with 1-1/2 ounces cream; stir. Serve immediately.
