Restaurant Review (Monk Beer Abbey) and Food52 Community Pick

My restaurant review of Monk Beer Abbey in Royal Oak, MI was published for The Oakland Press last week. A place to get a light meal, this is not. If you want a burger with foie gras, pork belly, a poached egg, and/or hollandaise sauce on top, this is the place you should go. Also, there’s beer samplers. I like beer samplers, because the tiny glasses make me feel like giant.

Also, I’m a Community Pick! So exciting. I’ve been keeping up with the bi-weekly contests over at Food52, and when I saw that a recent theme was “Your Best Coconut,” I got really excited. Yeah, I like coconut just a little bit an obscene amount. I entered my Chocolate-Balsamic Macaroons and Spicy Coconut Risotto with Lime Shrimp, and hoped for the best. A few weeks later, it was announced that the macaroons were a Community Pick, and I jumped for joy. This means that my photo was profesionally photographed by James Ransom, and the lovely testing notes from one of the Food 52 community members who tested my recipe was published.
