Football Sugar Cookies

These Football Cookies look like they're from a fancy bakery, but they're easily made with sugar cookie mix and store-bought icing. Customize with team colors if you want!

Ingredients

  • 1 package sugar cookie mix 17.5 ounces
  • 2 pouches ready-to-use green cookie decorating icing 7 ounces each
  • 1 package gold sugar pearls 5 ounces
  • 1 package rainbow nonpareil sprinkles 2 ounces
  • 1 pouch ready-to-use white cookie decorating icing 7 ounces
  • 15 football sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare and roll out cookie dough according to cookie mix package directions. Cut dough into 15 cookies using a 3.2-inch cookie cutter. Bake according to package directions, then allow cookies to fully cool before decorating.
  • Pipe a thin line of green icing around the rim of each cookie and allow the line to set. Flood the center of each cookie completely with green icing.
  • Before the green icing sets, place a line of gold sugar pearls down the center of each cookie, and sprinkle the top half of each cookie with nonpareils so it is completely covered. Place the gold pearls and nonpareils on all cookies, and allow cookies to sit for 1 hour or until fully set, before moving on to next step.
  • Use white icing to pipe a thin white line vertically down the center of the bottom half of each cookie, then pipe two angled lines on each side of the center line.
  • Place 1 football sprinkle on each cookie in the center of the middle line. Allow cookies to sit for 1 hour or until fully set before serving.

Notes

Ingredient notes (affiliate links):
  • sugar cookie dough - We used 1 pack (17.5 ounces) of Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix to make 15 (3.2-inch diameter) cookies. You can use any brand you want, or try a half batch of our sour cream sugar cookies (you will either need more icing and sprinkles, or you will have some plain cookies left over).
  • cookie cutter - We ended up using a 3.2-inch cookie cutter from a set of ring molds similar to this one that we have. The exact size of the cookie isn't so important. Anywhere around 3 inches is good!
  • green cookie icing - you'll need 2 pouches (7 ounces each) of ready-to-use cookie decorating icing. Most large grocery stores will carry it in individual colors.
  • white cookie icing - you'll need 1 pouch (7 ounces) of white icing.
  • nonpareil sprinkles - you can use rainbow nonpareils for a generic Go Team! vibe, or choose specific color nonpareils based on what team you are cheering for.
  • gold sphere sprinkles - you'll want something like these gold sugar pearls for separating the "fans" from the "field" on these football sugar cookies.
  • football sprinkles - We had a hard time finding footballs on their own, but you could use only the footballs from this sports sprinkle set, or just pick the footballs out of this football sprinkle mix.
