Berry Smoothie with Beets
This Berry and Beet Smoothie is a bright and vibrant breakfast or snack! Chock full of nutrients with a sweet, fruity taste.
Beet Smoothie Recipe
You may not think there’s much recipe development that goes into creating a smoothie recipe, but that’s not the case.
Just like every other recipe around here, our smoothie recipes are tested multiple times (sometimes in different blenders, even) to make sure they blend properly and they have a balanced flavor.
What do I mean by balanced flavor? Not too sweet, and certainly not too savory.
Getting the combination just right is important to me, and this beet smoothie recipe is just right. The earthy flavor of the beets is balanced with the tart sweetness of the raspberries, sweetened with a bit of honey, and made creamy with yogurt.
It will make a nutritious and beautiful addition to your smoothie repertoire.
Why You’ll Love This Beet Berry Smoothie
- This smoothie is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals like folate, vitamin C, potassium and fiber, so your body gets a big nutrition boost from it.
- The vibrant magenta color makes it as visually appealing as it is delicious.
- With yogurt for protein and banana for natural carbs, this smoothie is both energizing and satisfying.
Beet Smoothie Ingredients
- banana – adds a natural sweetness and creaminess to the smoothie.
- beet – you can use a raw or cook beet here. Whatever you have on hand works!
- raspberries – the tart sweetness balances the earthiness of the beet.
- yogurt – for a creamy texture and boost of protein. I like lowfat vanilla yogurt but you can use any type of yogurt.
- milk – thins out the smoothie so that it can be sipped with a straw.
- honey – for a little extra sweetness.
- lime juice – adds a touch of citrusy brightness.
How to Prepare Beets for a Smoothie
If using a raw beet, simple peel it first, and, depending on the strength of your blender, you may want to chop it into smaller pieces to make blending easier.
If using a cooked beet, you should be able to throw it right in the blender.

Smoothie With Beets FAQs
Yes, you can put raw beets in a smoothie. Make sure you peel and chop them to help your blender process them more easily.
Drinking a beet smoothie a few times a week can be a healthy addition to your diet. As with any food, it’s good to enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure a balanced diet.
Beets pair nicely with a variety of fruits. Berries like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries complement the earthiness of beets with their tartness. Apples and oranges also pair well.
Beets are packed with nutrients like vitamins A and C, iron and antioxidants, so beet smoothies can be a delicious way to boost your nutrient intake.
