Beet Smoothie Recipe

You may not think there’s much recipe development that goes into creating a smoothie recipe, but that’s not the case.

Just like every other recipe around here, our smoothie recipes are tested multiple times (sometimes in different blenders, even) to make sure they blend properly and they have a balanced flavor.

What do I mean by balanced flavor? Not too sweet, and certainly not too savory.

Getting the combination just right is important to me, and this beet smoothie recipe is just right. The earthy flavor of the beets is balanced with the tart sweetness of the raspberries, sweetened with a bit of honey, and made creamy with yogurt.

It will make a nutritious and beautiful addition to your smoothie repertoire.

Why You’ll Love This Beet Berry Smoothie

Beet Smoothie Ingredients

  • banana – adds a natural sweetness and creaminess to the smoothie.
  • beet – you can use a raw or cook beet here. Whatever you have on hand works!
  • raspberries – the tart sweetness balances the earthiness of the beet.
  • yogurt – for a creamy texture and boost of protein. I like lowfat vanilla yogurt but you can use any type of yogurt.
  • milk – thins out the smoothie so that it can be sipped with a straw.
  • honey – for a little extra sweetness.
  • lime juice – adds a touch of citrusy brightness.

How to Prepare Beets for a Smoothie

If using a raw beet, simple peel it first, and, depending on the strength of your blender, you may want to chop it into smaller pieces to make blending easier.

If using a cooked beet, you should be able to throw it right in the blender.
