Mesmerizing Blue Cocktail
If you’re looking for a blue cocktail, I have a simple but delicious one for you below.
I love creating fun cocktails for different themes, but they can’t just be gimmicky: they have to TASTE good, too. Even though this blue alcohol drink, is, yes, shockingly blue, it tastes like the best fruity drink you had on your last tropical vacation.
Originally developed for a party in honor of the “Breaking Bad” finale, it’s bright blue and made with both Hpnotiq and tequila (although you can substitute vodka if tequila isn’t your thing).
With a splash of pineapple juice for fruity flavor, and a whir in the blender to pulverize the ice, it’s a frothy, slushy drink in a mesmerizing blue hue, perfect for a party.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- The vibrant blue color is sure to wow your guests and add a splash of fun to your party.
- The combination of Hpnotiq, tequila and pineapple juice creates a perfectly balanced, refreshing drink.
- It couldn’t be any easier to make: put everything in the blender and turn it on!
What You Need to Make This Blue Drink
- Hpnotiq – or another blue liqueur. Hpnotiq adds the signature blue color and sweet, tropical flavor to the cocktail. Hpnotiq is a combination of vodka, tropical fruit juices and a touch of cognac.
- tequila blanco – this adds the smooth, crisp flavor of agave. Use blanco/silver tequila so you’re not adding any brown color that would muddle the blue color of the cocktail, like reposado or añejo tequila would.
- pineapple juice – a fresh and fruity addition that complements the tropical notes of the Hpnotiq.
- blue food coloring – this is optional, to really enhance the blue hue of the cocktail.
How to Make This Blue Cocktail Drink
1. BLEND. Only one step here! Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve this blue drink in a chilled glass, rimmed with sanding sugar, if desired.

Blue Drink Recipe Variations
- LIQUOR – If you don’t like tequila, you can make this with vodka. Gin also works pretty well!
- FRUIT JUICE – Not a fan of pineapple juice? Try an equal amount of lime juice or lemon juice.
- ON THE ROCKS – Serve this drinks on the rocks instead of blended with ice. Add a splash of club soda to top off the glass.
Blue Alcoholic Drink Home Chef Tips
- Have all of your ingredients chilled before making the drink to keep the blue cocktail slushy and frozen for as long as possible.
- If you prefer a sweet drinker, add a dash of simple syrup or agave nectar.
Serving This Blue Alcohol Drink
For an extra festive touch, garnish each glass with a bit of blue sanding sugar around the rim by wiping the rim of each glass with a damp paper towel and then dipping the rim of the glass into the sanding sugar.

We are going through Breaking Bad withdrawals. I’ve used my Vitamix mostly for smoothies and cocktails so far, but am looking forward to seeing just how hot it can make blended soups.

I like making vegan nut “cheeses” in the blender; however, the blender I have is not powerful enough and the cheese always turns out gritty. 🙁
Smoothies!
I love making smoothies in the blender. It is a great way to add some healthy ingredients that are easier to drink than eat sometimes.
That would be a thick chocolate milkshake….but that crystal blue persuasion is looking really good right now. I’m going to miss that show.
