My husband LOVES making pizza – he grills it in the summer, bakes it in the winter, and comes up with a new flavor combo each time. In this monthly “guest post,” I’m going to sit back, relax, and maybe take the occasional photo while Jeff makes me a pizza and tells you about it. Here he is:
The unofficial beginning of summer here in the Detroit area is Opening Day for the Tigers. For 7 months, people flock downtown to watch our 3-time defending AL Central champs. It is all about sitting in the sun, enjoying a cold beer, and chatting with friends and family. In my opinion, there are only two types of food to be had at the ballpark – roasted peanuts and bratwurst. Seeing as how I can’t really make a roasted peanut pizza, I tried to bring the summer baseball experience home with this ballpark brat pizza.
Most of ingredients for this pizza came from Door to Door Organics (find our full rundown of the service HERE). The thing I love about DTDO is that they have a lot of locally made organic products like pizza sauce from Local Folks Foods, as well as the Eastern Market Bratwurst from Corridor Sausage I used for this recipe. These pork sausages are some of the best I have eaten. Couple that with some fresh produce like sautéed and bell peppers, and you have the essence of that ballpark brat flavor.
