Halloween Margaritas Are A Bloody Good Cocktail!

Over 800,000 people have come to this site for our Halloween food ideas. That’s a lot of snacks, so we need something to wash it all down with, right? You’ve come to the right place for a drink for your next Halloween party.

These Halloween Margaritas are spooky, festive and delicious, with a bloody rim drip, eerie crimson color and blackberry “heart” skewer garnishes.

But this drink isn’t all style – the flavor is even better! Refreshing, tangy, and perfectly balanced, it’ll taste like the best margarita your goblin party guests have had all year.

Why You’ll Love Halloween Themed Margaritas

  • Easier than they look. Just a handful of ingredients and a few minutes of prep time get you an impressively spooky cocktail. Mix up a batch (for the adults) on your way out the door for trick or treating!
  • Spooky but classy. The bloody rim and blackberry heart give off creepy vibes, but the perfectly balanced drink still feels nice enough for a grown-up Halloween party.
  • Naturally bold color. Beet juice creates the haunting crimson hue!

  • tequila – the backbone of the margarita. White/silver/blanco tequila (vs. reposado or añejo) is our choice here since the clear liquid lets the crimson color shine through.
  • beet juice – find this in bottles in the refrigerated produce section of a well-stocked grocery store. It’s OK if it’s a blend of juices as long as the color is dark red / purple. The one we used was a blend of beet, carrot, cucumber, lemon and ginger.
  • fresh lime juice – makes the drink tart and refreshing. Go for freshly squeezed vs. bottled lime juice, it’s worth it.
  • agave nectar – sweetens these Halloween themed margaritas just a bit for a smoother sip.
  • orange liqueur – just like with a classic margarita, we love a higher end brand like Cointreau or Grand Marnier, but generic Triple Sec also works just great.
  • light corn syrup – creates the sticky base for the bloody rim drip.
  • red gel food coloring – adds the “blood” effect to the rim for these Halloween cocktails. Gel food coloring is essential here, as liquid food coloring will thin the corn syrup out too much.
  • blackberries – these will be threaded onto skewers to form “hearts,” adding some creepy visual appeal.

How To Make Halloween Margaritas

A series of three images showing how to rim a glass with a bloody corn syrup drip.
  1. BLOODY RIM. Stir together the corn syrup and food coloring on a small plate, then dip the rims of the glasses into it. Turn the glasses right side up and place them in the refrigerator so the blood hardens while you prep the rest of the cocktail.
Two cocktail skewers with two blackberries each on them.
  1. SKEWERS. Thread four blackberries onto each skewer, pressing them together to create a heart shape (they never look perfect, just try your best)!

  1. SHAKE. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the tequila, beet juice, lime juice, agave nectar and orange liqueur. Shake until chilled.

  1. SERVE. Fill each rimmed glass with fresh ice cubes and strain the drink into the glasses. Garnish with the skewers and serve right away.

Home Chef Tips

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less agave nectar, depending on your taste preference.
  • No beet juice? Substitute pomegranate juice or cranberry juice. The flavor will be a bit different, but you’ll still have a beautiful red hue for spooky season.
  • Make a big batch. Multiply the recipe to make as many servings as you need, and stir it up in a big pitcher (without ice) and keep it in the fridge. Pour over ice when ready to serve.
  • We love to add a dehydrated citrus slice to these Halloween margaritas for a little extra magic. You can buy these online or make them yourself.
  • To make your own dehydrated orange slices, cut the skin and pith off a Cara Cara orange and cut it into thin slices. Lay the slices on a baking rack that’s been lightly sprayed with nonstick spray. Place the rack over a sheet pan and bake at 200 degrees F until dehydrated, flipping once. It will take 3 to 4 hours, depending on how thick the orange slices are.

  • 2 ounces bottled beet juice (can be a blend)
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1 ½ ounces agave nectar
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Decorate the glasses with the Bloody Rim Drip: On a small plate, stir together the corn syrup and food coloring until well combined. Lightly dip the rims of two margarita or cocktail glasses into the syrup, then turn the glasses right side up and transfer to the refrigerator to harden while you make the cocktail.
