My husband LOVES making pizza – he grills it in the summer, bakes it in the winter, and comes up with a new flavor combo each time. In this monthly “guest post,” I’m going to sit back, relax, and maybe take the occasional photo while Jeff makes me a pizza and tells you about it. Here he is:

There is a pizza place in Detroit’s Eastern Market called Supino Pizzeria that loves to put an egg on top of pizza. The beauty about the egg is that it provides an additional sauce on the pizza. Lori and I like to go there after a long day walking the market – checking out the awesome butcher shop, smelling the fresh flowers, buying roasted peanuts, and trying cold brewed coffee. It seems like no matter what toppings we get on our pizza, we always get an egg.

This egg pizza is an ode to Supino and Eastern Market. All of the toppings for this pizza came from Door To Door Organics (find our full rundown of the service HERE). Today’s pizza includes a venerable bounty of organic items – smoked bacon, cremini mushrooms, fresh spinach, and a large grade AA egg. The best of the bunch, however, was this awesome truffle cheese from Farm Country Cheese House which happens to be located in Lakeview, MI.

Farm to Table Egg Pizza


  • 6 slices smoked bacon

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 1 medium shallot, thinly sliced

  • 4 ounces fresh baby spinach

  • 1 ball of pizza dough, store-bought or homemade

  • 1 cup pizza sauce

  • 1 tomato, thinly sliced

  • 4 medium cremini mushrooms, thinly sliced

  • 4 ounces truffle cheese, shredded

  • 1 large egg


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place bacon on parchment-lined rimmed baking pan and bake 18 to 20 minutes or until crisp. Remove from oven; transfer bacon to paper-towel lined plate and let cool slightly before coarsely chopping.

  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add shallot and cook 2 minutes; add spinach and 2 minutes or wilted, stirring occasionally.

  3. Grill pizza dough according to Grilled Pizza Tutorial. Alternatively, pizza crust can be baked in oven according to package directions.

  4. Once dough is halfway cooked, move to indirect heat and top with pizza sauce, tomato, mushrooms, cheese, bacon and spinach mixture.

  5. Once cheese is melted; crack egg onto the center of pizza.

  6. Cook pizza 8 to 10 minutes longer, or until egg white is cooked but yolk is still soft. Spread soft yolk over pizza; slice and serve immediately.
